Gadget Turns Smartphone Into Heart Monitor

New gadget, 'Smartheart,' developed by Telemedicine turns a smartphone into a heart monitor detecting heart problems within 30 seconds.
The gadget, a USD 480-device, hooks around the user's chest and on being connected to a smartphone records the heart rate by measuring its electro-activity. It converts the smartphone into a hospital grade heart monitor capable of performing electrocardiograms (ECG) in 30 seconds. The gadget can be connected to an iPhone, BlackBerry or Android device via Bluetooth. It allows the user to view an ECG in detail and email it to their doctor and alerts the user of an irregular or abnormal heart condition, if registered.
Dr Joseph Vettukattil, a congenital cardiologist at Southampton Hospital in London says that this gadget has the ability to save lives, as it becomes difficult to detect heart conditions at times with symptoms of sufferers occur at home. This gadget will help patients take a recording at the right time so that heart conditions can be better analysed by a doctor before treatment.
